Fenton Arts Council Fine Arts Exhibition

The Cause & Affect Gallery will be hosting an exhibit for members and prospective members of the Fenton Arts Council. This is a tremendous opportunity for artists in the area to be able to exhibit their work.

Submission Requirements:

Images: 3 (jpeg format)

The description must include: Title, medium, price, dimensions, year completed


Jury Process:

The jury panel is comprised of a three-person panel with a diverse background and skillset, including working artists and members of the arts community at large. Jurying will occur in May/June 2020.

Three (3) jpeg images of the artwork must be submitted with the application. The Fenton Arts Council reserves the right to use one or more of these images of accepted artists for marketing purposes, including social media and brochures.


Acceptance Process:

Those artists selected to participate will be notified via email by June 15, 2020.

Accepted artists are required to submit an artist statement/bio and photograph of self, medium, and description of the process within a week from acceptance.

All FEES have been waived

General Information


Artistic Standard

In keeping with Fenton Arts Council’s long-standing reputation for high-quality craftsmanship, we will be paying attention to selecting quality, original handmade items.


Exhibition Dates & Hours:

Friday, July 10th through August 8th

The exhibit will be open to the public during gallery hours.

Fenton Art Walk will be on July 11th, the exhibit will be open during this time.


Rule/Regulations

All artwork must be the original, handcrafted work of the displaying artist. Artwork will not be permitted if it is created from non-artist made molds, kits, or other commercial methods. Artists may display artwork only in the categories in which they were accepted. All artwork displayed must be comparable to the artwork shown in images. Ineligible work will not be permitted. Artists will be required to provide an artist statement and a photograph of themselves for brochures. Artists are required to provide measurements of all works when submitting for the jury.


Artist Attendance:

The person listed on the application must be the person that checks in unless prior arrangements have been made. Attendance at the exhibit reception is suggested.

Set Up: It begins at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 7, 2020, and will be completed by 7:00 pm Thursday, July 9, 2020.

Sales Tax: Cause & Affect Gallery will be responsible for collecting, reporting, and submitting the sales tax of 6% to the State of Michigan for all items which are sold during the exhibition.

Commission:

There will be a 20% commission charged for sales of all work. All sales will be run through Cause & Affect Gallery. Monies due to artists will be mailed within 40 days from date of sale


JURY DETAILS

How are images viewed by jurors?: Computer monitor

Within a medium category, applications are sorted and viewed by Random order

Jurors score applications using the following scale: Yes, No, or Maybe

Number of jurors scoring applications: 3 - 4

The exhibition organizes the jurors for a: Single jury panel that scores applications for all medium categories

Jurors score: Convened as a group in one room

Am I allowed to observe the jury process? No, the jury process is closed


Medium Categories

Ceramics: Original work in which the primary material is clay.

Digital Art: Includes any original work in which the original image, or the manipulation of other source material, was executed by the artist using the computer. Work must be editions, signed and numbered, on archival papers, inks, and emulsions.

Drawing/Pastels: Original works made with pen, pencil, charcoal, pastel or chalk.

Fiber: Work of primary fiber, including clothing, quilts, rugs, dolls, soft sculpture, baskets, etc., made by the artists. No ready-made clothing will be permitted.

Glass: Original works in which the primarily used material is glass. Including stained, lead, fused, and blown glass.

Graphics/Printmaking: Hand-pulled original prints (signed and numbered limited editions) ONLY are acceptable in the printmaking category.

Jewelry Precious: Jewelry made from precious metals and gemstones.

Jewelry Non-Precious: Jewelry made from non-precious elements, i.e. enamel, glass, clay, fiber, paper, wood, or other materials.

Metalwork: Functional metalwork.

Mixed Media 2-D: work incorporating more than one material where the end product is flat and may be hung on a wall. All pieces must be gallery ready.

Mixed Media 3-D: work incorporating more than one material where the end product is free-standing.

Open Air Sculpture: Works that can be displayed without walls for support, allowing patrons to wander around them.

Painting: Painted works made with oil, acrylic, watercolor, or other pigments.

Photograph: Photographers are encouraged to do their own printing. Their printing process must be disclosed. The category includes hand-colored, Polaroid transfers, emulsion transfers, etc., these works are not to be included in Mixed Media.

Sculpture: Non-functional, 3-dimensional works in any medium.

Wood: Original work, hand-tooled, carved, or machine-worked of primarily wood.


The use of automatic machines (CNC/laser) is NOT acceptable.
