"Two Paths"
by Lisa Welch
Two paths emerge
It’s time to choose
We are in the woods
Which way to turn
We see the light
The peace
The calm
Will it come before the dawn
Will we choose right
Or will we choose wrong
Will we go back to pillaging
To taking and taking
And crown a king
While we ignore all of the screams
Are we better than that
Have we grown
Have we changed
Will we choose colonization
Have we forgotten the dream
We got so close in 250 years
Utopia seemed near
Now dystopia I fear
Will the darkness take us back
To the path of the colonist
Fear
Greed
Dominance
The crooked road holds no true glory
Riches won with untold horrors
The choice in our path will tell the story
There is a path filled with hope
The truest American dream
Let us know once again
What equality can bring
I long to hear
Let freedom ring
Let us choose the path
That will pull us forward
That shines a light into the forest
